Following the close of AY24/25, the Dining Services team at Campus Life (Housing Services) organized a learning trip for our colleagues to one of Singapore’s key egg producers — Chew’s Egg Farm.
The focus of the visit was to provide our team with some understanding about sustainability and how we can better support local food producers.
✅ From the start of the tour, we followed strict safety steps — changing into full PPE and going through sanitation zones — showing the farm’s strong focus on food biosecurity & safety.
✅ We had the unique opportunity to observe both cage vs cage-free environments, gaining insights into the different impacts on productivity and animal welfare. A highlight for many was the rare chance to gently carry a chicken — a simple yet powerful reminder of the human connection behind food production.
✅ We also got a behind-the-scenes look at how eggs are sorted and packed. It was eye-opening to see how automation and technology contribute to a clean, efficient, and consistent operation.
This visit gave us a deeper appreciation of how local farms like Chew’s are actively contributing to Singapore’s “30 by 30” goal — to produce 30% of our nutritional needs locally by 2030. This experience served as a strong reminder of the importance of Singapore’s food security and reinforced our collective commitment to supporting the nation’s food resilience.
💡 By learning from and supporting local producers, we can play a part to building a more sustainable and resilient food future.
A big thank you to Chew’s Egg Farm for your warm hospitality and for sharing your knowledge with us. Let’s continue to support local, think green, and work together for a stronger food future. 💚🥚
