Affordable Food Prices on Campus
As part of enriching the NUS campus experience, we are dedicated to providing good quality and affordably-priced food options on campus to cater to the needs and support the overall well-being of our NUS community.
Our core vision is centred on enhancing the vibrancy of the food and beverage scenes on campus, providing value for money, variety, good quality, inclusivity and convenience.
Note: Food available at our university’s F&B outlets may contain or come into contact with allergens, including but not limited to wheat, nuts, eggs, milk, seafood, and crustaceans. We encourage everyone to exercise caution and take personal responsibility for their dietary needs. For clarifications on allergen information, please consult the staff at the respective F& B outlets.
For food pricing, we ensure competitive pricing whereby the food prices on campus are generally 10% cheaper on average than prices of hawkers nearby. In addition, for all canteen stalls, at least 2 main course options are priced below $3 to ensure the availability of lower priced meals accessible to all.
The average food pricing* on campus and outside summarized below:
Meal/Food Category | Average Price (NUS Canteens) | Average Price (Hawkers/Coffeeshops)** |
Chicken Rice | $3.00 | $3.50 |
Mixed Rice (1 meat + 2 veg) | $3.50 | $4.00 |
Ban Mian | $3.50 | $4.00 |
Sliced Fish Soup | $5.00 | $5.50 |
Chicken Briyani | $5.00 | $5.80 |
Malay Noodles (e.g. Mee Goreng, Mee Rebus, Mee Siam, Mee Soto) | $3.00 | $3.50 |
Average | $3.90 (ave 10% cheaper) | $4.40 |
Note*: The food prices are estimated and derived based on selected food categories (main meals) from our basket of food items vis-à-vis basket of benchmark comparables (outside hawkers, coffeeshops etc). Actual amount could be higher or lower depending on each student’s selection of items, add-ons and meal expenditure etc.
**Canteen prices are compared to hawkers/coffeeshops for a more like-to-like comparison as these are places where daily meals are taken by consumers. Airconditioned foodcourt prices are typically much higher.
