General Information (Student Housing)

1. Meal Plan @ Dining Halls (Available at Halls of Residence and Residential Colleges Only) 

A) Meal Plan @ Dining Hall (Available at Halls and Residential Colleges Only)

Residents living at Residential Colleges and Halls of Residence and required to subscribe to compulsory meal plans.

In each Dining Hall, there are various options provided for the residents each day. The menus are served based on a 4-weeks cycle for breakfast and an 8-weeks cycle for dinner, to reduce food fatigue. The meal options offered are prepared in Halal, Non-Halal and Vegetarian. In addition, residents can enjoy a variety of dining options for breakfast and dinner, ranging from Chinese, Western, Indian and Malay cuisines.  

Residents are given meal credits, redeemable for meals during each meal period – a portion shall be allocated to F&B cash Valve (Dual Wallet) which may be utilized at various participating canteens in NUS.  

Residents may redeem up to 3 meal credits per meal session, however, the meal credit will be deducted accordingly from the meal plan entitlement during the semester. 

Residents are required to download the “NUS Hostel Dining App” onto their mobile phone in order to scan the QR code to redeem the meals from the respective stations.  

  

The mobile phone must have a minimum Android version of 9.0 and above. 

Operating Hours

The operational hours of the Dining Halls (Halls of Residence) are as follows,

Mondays to Fridays : Breakfast (7.00am to 10.00am) and Dinner (5.30pm to 9.00pm)
Saturdays : Breakfast only (7.00am to 10.00am)
Sundays : Dinner only (5.30pm to 9.00pm)

The operational hours of the Dining Halls (Residential Colleges) are as follows,

Mondays to Fridays : Breakfast (7.00am to 10.30am) and Dinner (5.30pm to 9.30pm)
Saturdays : Breakfast only (7.00am to 10.30am)
Sundays : Dinner only (5.30pm to 9.30pm)

All meal credits expire at the end of the semester.  Unused meal credits will be used to fund and support special events such as Formal Dinners, Monthly Theme Nights and Meal Enhancements (e.g. soy milk, juices, etc.). Please note that the Meal Plan is compulsory for the stay at the RCs – inclusive of whether residents have to attend internship outside of the school and campus during semester.  

Food and Beverage Containers

Residents are advised to bring along their own Food and Beverage containers as there are limited seating arrangements in the Dining Hall and they may need to take away their meals.  

 

2. Internet Access  

Wireless Service is available on campus. Simply log on to the NUS Wireless network (NUS_STU or NUS_STU_2-4GHz) in your room, apartment, lounge and other common areas seamlessly using your NUSNET ID. 

You can also enjoy seamless access to NUS Wi-Fi services by using the uNivUS App’s “NUS Wi-Fi Checker” feature which will help you find and connect to NUS hotspots effortlessly and provide instant feedback on Wi-Fi connectivity.  

Download uNivUS: Download the uNivUS App from your device’s app store. 

Open the App: Launch the uNivUS App on your device. 

NUS Wi-Fi Checker: Look for the “NUS Wi-Fi Checker” feature within the app. It will help you identify NUS Wi-Fi hotspots and ensure a smooth connection. 

 

3. Air-Condition Facilities  

A) PGPR, Houses @ PGP, Residential Colleges, and UTown Residences 

Air Conditioning (for Air-Conditioned Rooms) is offered on a pay-per-use model via the Electricity Vending System (EVS). The tariff will be pegged to but not exceeding the prevailing electricity rate which might be reviewed from time to time.

Residents living at these hostels may purchase the air-con credits using credit cards (VISA or MASTER) online at the EVS Website https://cp2.evs.com.sg/

B) Halls of Residence

Rooms at the Halls of Residence are not air-conditioned. However, for rooms which have additional socket points for air-conditioners, residents may apply to bring their own portable air-conditioner. Please note that prevailing charges will apply as well.  

C) College Green

Residents at College Green will be charged a fixed rate for Air-conditioning usage.  

 

4. Repairs and Damages  

Residents are to submit a maintenance request through https://uhms.nus.edu.sg/StudentPortal/ using your existing NUSNET ID and password, and we will contact you within 3 working days depending on nature of work requests. Residents will be able to check the status of their Maintenance Request through the same portal.  

Residents may also approach our staff at respective Housing Services Office for any Maintenance Request pertaining to the facilities of the accommodation, during office hours.  

For maintenance request that require urgent attention (e.g. black out, pipe burst, lift breakdown) during non-office hours, do call through the UCI One Number 24 hours hotline, 6601 7878, and press “1” for Maintenance. Alternatively, you may contact your duty Resident Assistant (RA) for assistance.  

Do note that residents are responsible for all damages and losses to furniture, fixtures and furnishings, including doors and windows in the apartment / common areas. Should repairs be the result of damage, breakage, or vandalism, all residents residing in the apartment at the point of report will be held collectively accountable, unless the individual resident(s) responsible is (are) found. If you witness any damage being done, please report the matter immediately to your Housing Services Office/Resident Assistant or Campus Emergency & Security at 6874 1616 (24-hour operation). 

 

5. Cleaning Services 

Residents are responsible for cleaning their own rooms and are expected to keep their rooms and common areas in a manner that adheres to university standards of cleanliness and safety.  

The Housekeeping staff will only clean the following areas:  

  • Common toilets and shower rooms 
  • Common lounges 
  • Common pantries (excluding used utensils that are left in the sink) 
  • Corridors and stairwells 
  • Laundry rooms

All rooms will be inspected upon check-out. Cleanliness and neatness are a part of this inspection and a cleaning charge of up to $300 plus demerit points may be issued to each resident if the room or apartment is not cleaned up to the condition in which it was handed over during check-in.

 

6. Safety and Security

NUS Campus Emergency & Security (CES) conducts regular campus patrols, responds to emergency situations and enforces security regulations. We have compiled a list of guidelines to ensure the safety and security of all residents in the respective properties.  

  • Please do not allow non-residents to enter the building unless you are willing to take responsibility for them as your personal guests.  
  • Adhere to the Visitors’ Policy at all times. The visiting hours are strictly from 7:00am to 11:00pm daily.  
  • Keeping the exterior doors of toilets, resident lounges and other common facilities open (e.g. wedging) will compromise the safety and security of residents and is strictly prohibited.   
  • Keep your room locked at all times.  
  • Lending your Access Card / Key(s) to others is prohibited and could result in disciplinary actions.  
  • If you lose your Access Card, you are strongly advised to report the loss immediately to Campus Emergency & Security at 6874-1616 (24-hour operation); and also contact the Resident Fellow / Resident Advisor promptly. 
  • ALWAYS lock your room or apartment door and close your windows when you leave, even if you are leaving your room for a few minutes.  
  • Always keep your Access Card with you.  
  • Never leave laptops, wallets or valuables in the open; store them out of sight. 
  • Maintain a list of all items and passwords in a secured place.  
  • Engrave your ID onto valuable personal items, if possible.  
  • Contact the Campus Emergency & Security at 6874 1616 (24-hour operation), immediately, if a theft has occurred. 

 

7. Schedule of Costs for Housing Related Matters 

The Schedule of Costs is to be read in conjunction with the Housing Agreement and Rules and Regulations which can be found on the Office of Student Affairs’ (OSA) Website here

An administrative fee for non-declaration of $50 will also apply.

 

6 Refrigerator / portable air- conditioning / air cooler utility charges. Please refer to the following utility charges for following electrical appliances.

 

Utility Charges

  • Small Refrigerator: $90/Semester 
  • Large Refrigerator: $138/Semester 
  • Portable Air-Conditioning (Residents Own Purchased Units): $42/Week 

 

For UTR and RCs only: 

Portable Air-Conditioning units (Units Loaned from HS): $63/Week

7 Do-It-Yourself (DIY) wiring and operating other electrical set ups or appliances that do not form part of the provision or inventory  

e.g. cooking equipment and personal washing machines etc. 

  • Replacement cost based on SOR under Housing Term Contractor for any damage.  
  • Removal cost and utility cost at prevailing rate. 
Failure to upkeep cleanliness in kitchen / common areas.  

(Including appliances/equipment e.g. refrigerator, hotplate, microwave oven, electric oven, bathroom etc.).  

Replacement cost based on SOR under Housing Term Contractor for any damage &/or cleaning fee incurred. 
Failure to upkeep cleanliness in the accommodation and the furniture provided in the accommodation. Replacement cost based on SOR under Housing Term Contractor for any damage &/or cleaning fee incurred. 

 

10  Placing personal items e.g. shoes, slippers, mats, racks, clothing etc. along corridors and on staircases. 

(These items may pose as a fire hazard or tripping hazard that will impede the evacuation of Residents in an emergency). 

These items will be disposed by the cleaning staff without further notice.  

Housing Services will not be responsible for any losses.  

11  Setting of fire. Use of candle or any type of open-flame in the room / residence (e.g. incense sticks, sparklers etc.)  Replacement cost based on SOR under Housing Term Contractor for any damage &/or cleaning fee incurred. 
12  Using and obstructing accommodation especially all common areas of the apartment/building as illegal storehouse for transshipment arrangements etc.  

 

Clearing / cleaning fee incurred of up to $300. 
13  Lockouts  

 

No admin fee imposed for the first 2 weeks of the semester.  

 

Fees for lock-outs from Week 3 of Semesters 1 and 2 onwards are as follows:  

  • $7 per lockout, for lockouts during office hours.  
  • $12 per lockout, for lockouts after office hours.   
14  Loss or damage to access card, and keys and combination lockset.  

(where applicable)  

 

  • $12 per replacement of mechanical key type, e.g. letterbox key, cabinet key, wardrobe key or equivalent. 
  • $32 per replacement of access card. 
  • $62 per replacement of mechanical lockset (in cases of where security of the room may be compromised.) 
15  Failure to return access card, residence keys personally to Management office upon check out   Replacement cost for any damage / loss incurred.  
16  Room Change / Room Swap within Hostel / Overstay Fee Admin fee of $25 per change (subjected to Housing Services Office’s approval) on top of prevailing hostel fees.  
17  Inter-hostel Transfer   Additional cleaning fee of $32.40 on top of the prevailing hostel fees. 
18  Improper Checkout Fee  $62

 

8. Framework for Early Checkout

1. Student going for SEP  

– Field work/Internship (local and overseas)   

* Applicable only if student is checking out early. Students who ask to check in late are charged full semester fees. (Applicable to late check ins). 

Before Check in: 

  • Acceptance fee to be refunded   

 

After Check in:  

  • Resident to provide 2 weeks’ notice prior to check out date (student are allowed to stay during the notice period) Unused hostel fee to be refunded. 
  • Acceptance fee can be used to offset hostel fee.  
  • Meal plan to be pro-rated.  
  • Residents can choose to stay till the end of the notice period. 

 

2. Student on Leave of Absence or Termination of Study.   

– Termination or withdrawal from College (Non-disciplinary)  

– Withdrawal  

– Conversion from Full-time to Part-time – Medical grounds   

* Applicable only if student is checking out early. Students who ask to check in late for this reason is subjected to approval. (Applicable to late check ins) 

Before Check in:  

  • Acceptance fee is refunded.   

 

After Check in:  

  • Hostel fee to be pro-rated.  
  • Acceptance fee can be used to offset hostel fee.  
  • Meal plan to be pro-rated.
3. Dissertation submission (for Postgraduates) 

 

Before Check in:  

  • Acceptance fee is forfeited.   

 

After Check in:  

Check out before the end of instructional week 2:  

  • Acceptance fee to be forfeited.  
  • Hostel fee to be pro-rated.  
  • Meal plan to be pro-rated.   

 

Check out after instructional week 2:  

  • Resident liable for the entire semester. 
4.Other reasons   

– Exchange students: course ends early  

– MBA students: course ends early  

* No refund regardless of check out date 

Before Check in:  

  • Acceptance fee is forfeited. 

 

After Check in:  

Check out within 2 weeks of official check in date:

9. Framework for Inter-Accommodation Transfer
