We are excited to EXTEND A WARM WELCOME to you at our student hostels in University Town (UTown)! As a student hostel, we strive to provide a comfortable and safe living environment for our guests during their short stay with us in a hostel setting.

Located in a modern setting in the convenience of a small town, University Town offers unique rooms with impressive views. It is the first of its kind in Singapore’s higher learning landscape. Linked to the NUS Kent Ridge campus via a link bridge (College Link), UTown is where some 4,100 people work, live, and learn in close proximity. It has 4 residential colleges, graduate students apartments, guest apartments, sport facilities and is walking distance to many cultural and educational facilities at Kent Ridge.

Standard Rooms
(Air-conditioned / Non-Air conditioned)

A single-person living space furnished with a single bed, a ceiling fan, a writing desk and chair, a bookshelf, a wardrobe and a mobile pedestal. Shower and toilet facilities as well as kitchenettes (at selected levels) are located along the common corridors or within the apartments. Kitchenettes are equipped with stoves and other kitchen appliances where residents can cook their own meals instead of eating out.

1-Bedroom Apartment
(Air-conditioned / Non-Air conditioned with en suite)

A self-contained apartment, ideal for married couples and graduate students, the UTown married apartments are designed to include a bathroom, a kitchen, a living room and a separate bedroom. The living room consists of a sofa, book shelves, TV console and a dining table. The bedroom has a ceiling fan a queen size bed, a writing desk and a wardrobe. The kitchenette is equipped with stoves and other kitchen utensils which residents can utilise for cooking their own meal instead of eating out.

We kindly request that you check your welcome email or with your conference organiser on the check-in time and location and with whom to meet when you arrive at UTown.

General guideline for check-in and check-out:

  • Please be prepared to present a valid form of identification, such as a passport or driver’s license, during check-in as well as your email confirmation.
  • The standard check-in time is after 2pm and check-out before 12pm.
  • During check-out, please check if you have packed all your personal belongings and drop off your keys at the front desk during office hours or at the drop box located outside the management office after office hours.
  • Any loss of key cards may result in a replacement fee of $32.

For guests staying more than a week, there will be weekly housekeeping services which includes basic room cleaning and change of linen.

Being environmentally conscious, NUS encourage our students to conserve energy in various ways.

Here are some methods that you are strongly encouraged to follow.

  • Switch off all electrical appliances when not in use and when leaving the room.
  • Unplug devices when not in use.
  • Maximise natural light during the day.

The comprehensive housing rules and regulations can be found here. Please refer to the following key rules and regulations for ease of reference:

  • All guests and residents are to observe the quiet hours (from 10pm-7am) at UTown.
  • Facilities and Spaces not allocated or reserved for your group are out of bounds (e.g. common lounge, seminar rooms, mph, auditorium etc). In other words, your reservation only includes room, shared bathroom facilities and common areas.
  • Ensure that there are no activities held anywhere in UTown from 11pm-7am. All activities are to end by 10pm.
  • Smoking and the consumption of alcohol drinks are strictly prohibited in UTown and within NUS Kent Ridge Campus.
  • All guests and residents are responsible for the conduct of their visitors (visitors shall in all instances include family, friends or relatives) who must also respect and comply with all rules/regulations while in or about the UTown. Any breach by any such visitors shall be deemed to be a breach by the host.
  • All visitors must leave the UTown by 11pm and it is strictly prohibited from staying overnight.
  • NUS Hostel rooms and bathroom/toilets are strictly gender specific. All guests and residents must leave the room door open whenever there is an opposite gender in their room.
  • All guests and residents shall not loiter around the corridors, kitchens, and other open areas after 11pm.
  • All guests and residents are required to lock their room/apartment door, main lobby door/gate and fire exit doors whenever they enter or leave the building.
  • All guests and residents are required to report any loss of items / appliances / linens in the room. (e.g. roller blind, chair, etc.) to the management office.
  • All guests and residents are not allowed to use appliances, cooking utensils and food items in the pantry / kitchenette that do not belong to them.

 

Discover and explore our Kent Ridge Campus on your own. Our campus is well-linked by the efficient NUS Internal Shuttle Bus Service (ISBS). You have the freedom to visit various parts of our campus, such as our faculties and Museums, without having to stick to a guided itinerary, using the bus services D1, D2, E, BTC.

FIRE EMERGENCY PLAN

1) Signal for Fire Alarm
The fire alarm will be activated in the event of a fire breakout and a complete evacuation will commence.

2) Actions to be Taken
Stay calm. Quickly walk down the staircase by the nearest exit and proceed to the Assembly Area.

  • Normal weather – Assemble at Town Green
  • Wet weather – Assemble outside Auditorium at Stephen Riady Centre, level 1

Do not use the lifts. If you see or know of any resident(s) with disability that needs your assistance, help them to the staircase landing and inform your organizer/staff about it.

Upon reaching the Assembly Area, mark your attendance with the Resident Assistant/Staff present. Do not re-enter the building unless instructed by the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officer.

3) Return Back to Building
Once the instruction is given to return to your building, proceed back in a calm and orderly manner.
